OWESA participated in the Second Water Business Delegation in Vietnam (November 1-9)

OWESA visited Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi to participate in the Second Water Business Delegation to Vietnam (Nov. 1-9) hosted by the Team E-Kansai gWater Grouph (The Secretariat of the Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

In the technology presentation meeting (Nov. 2 in HCMC), Mr. Hiroyuki Mabuchi, deputy secretary general, gave a presentation about Osaka City's water and environment technologies and industrial wastewater control to the attendees from Vietnamese water-related private companies.

On Nov. 3, OWESA participated in an opinion exchange meeting with the Food & Foodstuffs Association (FFA) and its member companies, and then visited the Third NhonTrach Industrial park established and managed by Tinh Nghia Ltd. On Nov. 5, OWESA participated in an opinion exchange meeting in Hanoi with the leather and shoes industry group and its member companies.

On Nov. 6 to 8, OWESA participated in VietWater2012, Vietnam's largest water-related trade show and visited the booths of Vietnamese industry groups in order to collect information such as companies' lines of business and to exchange opinions and expand its international network. OWESA took officials of the Vietnamese government and Hanoi City, who had been JICA training course participants in Osaka this year and last year, to Japanese companies at the Japan Pavilion to provide them with opportunities to adopt technologies and for networking. On Nov. 7, through the cooperation of Hanoi City officials who are former participants of a JICA training course, OWESA organized an inspection tour to the Truc Bach sewage treatment plant and invited the Japanese companies to join.

Although the Vietnamese government is tightening controls on industrial wastewater during the country's rapid economic growth, because the technology is still too immature to meet the effluent permits, the technologies of Japanese companies are expected to be useful. Since the policy of the industrial wastewater control seems to lack coherency depending on each administration, administrative aspects seem to require support.

In VietWater2012, through discussions and exchanges with various companies and groups operating businesses such as contractors, suppliers, colleges, associations, etc., OWESA could learn about the technologies and products used in Vietnam as well as the business situations. OWESA will utilize such information and networks to create additional business opportunities with Vietnam in the future.
