Fourth field work undertaken in Yangon City, Myanmar, for "Capacity Development of Sewer Pipes O&M and Rehabilitation Project in Yangon City"


   Osaka City dispatched a delegation to Yangon City, Myanmar to engage in field work for its project called "Capacity Development of Sewer Pipes O&M and Rehabilitation Project in Yangon City" between November 28 and December 5, 2016, the fourth of its kind held in the Myanmar City.
   The project, launched under the JICA Partnership Program, is aimed at improving technologies to maintain and manage sewerage pipes in Yangon City. Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. has undertaken the project since fiscal 2014 in collaboration with the Public Works Bureau of the Osaka City government and the Urban Infrastructure Technology Center Foundation.
   The JICA Partnership Program is a scheme sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide grassroot technological assistance to developing countries using the technological expertise and know-how of Japanese municipalities, and their manpower resources. The scheme taps into a special budget earmarked by JICA for revitalizing Japanfs regional economies.
   The latest field work, the last of its kind in the project, confirmed the progress of the JICA program that has been made so far. While in Yangon City, the Osaka City delegation held a seminar to brief local parties concerned about the progress of the program.
   The fourth field work by Osaka City was in line with a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the city and the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) in September 2014 to promote their technological cooperation. Based on the MOU, Osaka City will continue working on problems facing Yangon City when undertaking urban infrastructure development projects.
